England: Spain Invitational Tournament Day 4 Round-up: Women lose 0-3 to India in last match

England Women beat Spain 1-0

England Women’s team started their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over the hosts. It was Tessa Howard, who scored the winner in the 59th minute in what was a closely fought contest on the opening day of the tournament. They will take on India in their second match of the tournament on Wednesday.

England Men play out 1-1 draw against Netherlands

England Men put up a resilient show as they held the Netherlands to a thrilling 1-1 draw in their opening fixture of the Invitational Tournament. After a goalless first two quarters, the Dutch broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute through Jip Janssen’s penalty corner strike. However, the England Men fought back as Sam Ward scored the late equaliser from a penalty corner to help his team earn a crucial point.

They will square off against the hosts Spain in their second match of the tournament on Wednesday.

England Women play out 1-1 draw against India

England women registered a 1-1 draw against India in their second match of the tournament. England took the lead in the 7th minute of the match through Holly Hunt’s field goal. No goals were scored in the second quarter, but India fought back and scored the equaliser through Lalremsiami, who scored from a penalty corner routine in the 41st minute. Both teams pushed for the winner in the final quarter, but neither could find an opening, thus ending the game at a 1-1 stalemate.

England are on top of the points table with four points. They will face hosts Spain in their third match on Friday.

England Men secure first victory

England men took their first victory of the tournament after beating the home team 3-1. England went 1-0 down early on in the first quarter to a Marc Miralles goal in the seventh minute. It wasn’t until the third quarter that England secured the equaliser through Nick Bandurak in the 39th. This was quickly followed by a Sam Ward goal from a penalty corner in the 40th minute to give England the lead. Bandurak was back on the score sheet in the 54th minute after scoring from a penalty corner and putting England 3-1 ahead. 

England moved top of the points table with four points. On Friday, they will take on India in their third match.

England Women lose to hosts Spain

The England Women’s team were beaten 2-0 in their third match in Terrassa, Spain. The deadlock was broken by Spain in the 20th minute when Clara Ycart converted a penalty corner. In the third quarter, Marta Segu doubled the host’s lead with a field goal in the 36th minute. 

In their final match of the tournament, England will take on India on Saturday.

England Men forced to draw with India

England Men played out a 1-1 draw with India in what was their third match of the tournament. It was England’s Sam Ward that was first on the scoresheet after scoring from a penalty corner in the 5th minute of the game. India equalised in the second quarter with a penalty corner from their captain Harmanpreet Singh. 

The Men will play their final match of the tournament on Sunday. 

England Women lose to India

The England Women’s team were beaten 0-3 in their last match of the tournament in Terrassa, Spain. It was Lalremsiami who scored all three goals for India in the 13th, 17th and 56th minute respectively. 

With a win, draw and two losses, England finished in the third place in the invitational tournament.

The Men will play their final match of the tournament on Sunday.
