HockeyOne: Perth Thundersticks Liberty Hockey One Finals: Team Selection

As the Perth Thundersticks gear up for the Liberty Hockey One Finals series, we can reveal who will be travelling to Hobart, Tasmania.

Women’s

The Perth Thundersticks Women’s squad will feature a largely unchanged line-up from their previous outing against Brisbane Blaze as they get set to go for gold at the Liberty Hockey One finals.

Neasa Flynn will come into the extended squad that will be travelling to Hobart, Tasmania.

Despite having a scheduled bye last weekend, the Perth Thundersticks secured the minor premiership for the Women’s competition without dropping a single game.

During the bye weekend, the side have been busy training, maintaining fitness and further strengthening team bonds.

Their strong form throughout the season has helped them become the first Women’s team and first team overall to qualify for the finals after just four rounds of competition, including a 6-3 victory against Tassie Tigers back in Round 2.

Since facing off against the Perth Thundersticks in Round 2, the Tassie Tigers recorded wins over Adelaide Fire, Brisbane Blaze and Canberra Chill to qualify for the finals for the first time ever.

Men’s

Three familiar faces will come back into the fold for the Perth Thundersticks Men’s team that will be travelling to Hobart for the Liberty Hockey One finals.

Josh Bowen, Matt Willis and James Collins return to the squad to provide extra support to the extended squad.

The side have been making the most of the bye weekend last week to freshen up for the finals, where they will take on Hockey Club Melbourne in the Semi Finals.

Along with the regular training sessions, the Men’s team also engaged in an intra-club match at Melville Toyota Stadium on Friday 22 November.

Last time the Men’s team met Hockey Club Melbourne, the side ground out a huge come-from-behind victory to upset the Victorian side.

Since the Round 3 victory, the Thundersticks ground out wins over Adelaide Fire and NSW Pride to become the first Men’s team and second team overall to qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, Hockey Club Melbourne found form following Round 3, recording a win over NSW Pride, drawing level with Brisbane Blaze, and upsetting Canberra Chill in a tight contest to qualify for the finals.
