The Men’s Silver Cup gets a new winner. Defending champion Rijswijk stranded Friday night in the quarterfinals of the second cup tournament. Union was 6-1 too strong for the team that played in the cup finals the last two seasons. Besides Union, Delta Venlo, Hoorn and Zwart-Wit also reached the last four of the Silver Cup.
Delta Venlo won 4-3 over Ommoord on a visit. It was a game in which Ommoord led 2-0 after which Delta Venlo scored three goals. Ommoord equalized in the closing stages, but Delta Venlo took the win in the end. Hoorn settled at home with Wageningen. It became 2-0.
In the game between Zwart-Wit and Maarssen, there was a 1-1 tie on the scoreboard after regular playing time, after which shoot-outs had to bring the decision. In these shoot-outs Zwart-Wit proved to be the strongest, winning 4-3 and thus the last ticket for the semi-finals.
On Friday, April 18, Union will host Zwart-Wit in the semifinals. In the other semifinal Hoorn will take on Delta Venlo at home.
Final
The final of the Silver Cup is on Monday, April 21. On the grounds of Fletiomare in Utrecht it will be played at 15.00 hours.
