Ehren was appointed national coach of the Belgians in December 2020. He led his team to European Championship silver and bronze and reached the semi-finals with the Red Panthers at the last Olympic Games. Before that, the 51-year-old coach won a string of prizes with the women of Den Bosch. With the team from his hometown, he became national champion nine times and won seven European major prizes.

Three weeks ago, Van Ass indicated that he did not want to continue as national coach after the golden Games in Paris. Ehren, also former coach of Jong Oranje, was almost immediately promoted to top candidate .
