The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has sacked old team management of senior men’s team after Dutch coach Siegfried Aikman resigned from head coach position due to salary dues.
Team manager Saeed Khan and coach Ayaz Mahmood were removed from their posts.
Last month, Aikman had resigned as the head coach after he was not paid his salary for the last one year. The reason behind delay in releasing salary of Aikman is the rift between the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and PHF.
Today, Colonel (R) Umar Sabir has been appointed as the new manager of the national team. Olympians Rehan Butt and Mohammad Saqlain will be accompanied by Dilawar Hussain and Abdul Haseem Khan in coaching panel. Abdul Ghafoor will be the new goalkeeping coach whereas Mohammad Shahid will serve as physio.
PHF’s higher management has also decided to hire a specialist trainer for players from Army.
Meanwhile, the PHF has also named 45 probables for the training camp ahead of Asian Champions Trophy. The event is scheduled in India from August 3-12.
