Dutch coach Siegfried Aikman has been appointed as the head coach of Oman men’s hockey team after he resigned from Pakistan team last month.
Aikman had resigned as the head coach after he was not paid his salary for the last one year. The reason behind delay in releasing salary of Aikman was the rift between the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).
Taking to Twitter, Adnan Zakir, a former international player, shared that Aikman has received his cheque of $42667 from PSB and also congratulated him on his new role.
“Good news this morning for Siegfried Aikman, PSB issued the cheque of $42667 thank you. Congratulations Aikman on your head coach appointment for the Oman National men’s hockey team. Wishing you a good luck for your new journey,” he wrote.
After Aikman’s resignation, PHF sacked old team management featuring manager Saeed Khan and coach Ayaz Mahmood.
Colonel (R) Umar Sabir has been appointed as the new manager of the national team. Olympians Rehan Butt and Mohammad Saqlain are accompanied by Dilawar Hussain and Abdul Haseem Khan in coaching panel. Abdul Ghafoor is the new goalkeeping coach whereas Mohammad Shahid will serve as physio.
PHF’s higher management has also decided to hire a specialist trainer for players from Army.
