Scotland: Latest Results in Scottish Schools Cups

The Scottish Schools Cups have now reached the quarter-final stage for all competitions, and we know the semi-final line-up for the boys’ cups. The 51 matches played over the last two months have produced loads of exciting hockey, including a few penalty shoot-outs as teams compete for places at the cup finals in March.

Teams have travelled the length of the country, including journeys between the Borders and Aberdeen. But none as far as Gordonstoun’s S3 girls’ 450-mile round trip to play Wellington in Ayrshire! Thank you to all the teachers and coaches who have worked so hard to make this happen.

The draws for all competitions can be found here: Scottish Schools Cup Draws.

Senior Boys Cup

The boys’ semi-finals see Fettes College hosting Loretto; and Hutchesons’ GS playing Edinburgh Academy.

Fettes have seen off the challenges of George Watson’s and Stewart’s Melville as they seek to retain the Cup. Loretto beat George Heriot’s 3-1 in a hard-fought quarter final.

Hutchesons’ beat Jordanhill 1-0 in a Glasgow derby before a thrilling 4-3 win on penalties away at Robert Gordon’s.

Senior Girls Cup

George Heriots’ 4-1 win over High School of Glasgow sets up a quarter final with Jordanhill. Mary Erskine School will host Dollar Academy, who edged past St George’s School 2-1.

George Watson’s will play Kelvinside, who beat Hutchesons’ on penalties. And Glasgow Academy’s 4-0 win against Strathallan sees them play away at holders Edinburgh Academy.

Senior Girls Challenge Cup

St Columba’s have progressed to the quarter finals after wins against Kilgraston and Earlston – they’ll meet Boroughmuir HS, victors over Trinity. North Berwick’s reward for a good win against Albyn is a trip to St Aloysius’ in Glasgow.

Selkirk HS have already sealed their semi-final place after a hard-fought win against Morrison’s, who had knocked out Gordonstoun.  The last quarter final will be between Peebles HS, who beat Galashiels on penalties, and Robert Gordon’s after their win against Kelso.

Junior Boys Cup

We have two all-Edinburgh semi-finals in the Junior Boys Cup: Merchiston Castle will host Edinburgh Academy; and George Watson’s College will play Fettes College.

Merchiston have yet to concede a goal after impressive wins against Robert Gordon’s and Grove Academy. Their opponents, Edinburgh Academy have seen off the challenge of Heriot’s and Loretto.

Watson’s beat Stewart’s Melville 2-0 in the quarters to set up a semi against the holders, Fettes.

Junior Girls Cup

St Columba’s 2-1 win against Loretto earns them a tie against Edinburgh Academy. Fettes will host St George’s after the latter had a good win at Glenalmond.

Kelvinside knocked out High School of Dundee on penalties to set up a home tie v Mary Erskine’s, who had a good win against Heriot’s. The Glasgow Academy’s win over Dollar on penalties sees them meet the holders, George Watson’s College, who had a big win at Strathallan.

Junior Girls Challenge Cup

Jordanhill had two impressive wins against Albyn and Kelso HS (pictured) to reach the semi-finals already. They’ll meet St Aloysius’ or Morrison’s Academy, who knocked out Selkirk HS.

North Berwick’s reward for a 3-1 win in Aberdeen against St Margaret’s is a home tie against Wellington. Finally, Galashiels Academy will host Robert Gordon’s after both had walkover wins.
