Despite dominating the contest Scotland U21 Women lost away from home to Ireland 1-0 in the first of four test matches.
From the outset the Scots pressed hard, won the ball well, and were in charge of the possession.
It was the home side who took their chance however, and it was the only chance they had in the contest. A Scottish error was pounced upon and a strike from the top of the circle put Ireland 1-0 ahead.
Scotland had chances in the match. The Scots had six corners but were unable to take any of them. Also, from open play, Izzy Usher had an attempt go wide of the mark. The ball was played into her in front of goal, Usher’s trap saw the ball pop up in the air, and she hit it hard on the volley.
Ellie Barlow also had a decent opportunity when the ball was played in for her to attack, but the Irish keeper was out quick to smother the ball.
An equaliser wouldn’t arrive for the Scots and Ireland held out for the win on the opening day of the series.
