South Africa: Junior Africa Cup – Day 1 Recap | Windhoek, Namibia

The South African U21 Women’s side began their Junior Africa Cup campaign with a 5-0 default victory, as Uganda were unable to arrive in time for the scheduled opening match.

In the men’s competition, the South African U21 Men delivered a commanding performance to defeat Zambia 12-3 in their first fixture.

First Quarter
South Africa opened with high intensity, taking a 4-1 lead through goals from Jamie Seale, Carloon Mentoor, and a brace from Ross Montgomery. Zambia’s response came via Abraham Tagiwireyi.

Second Quarter
Mentoor added his second of the match, while Indoor Hockey World Cup bronze medalist Litha Kraai found the net to extend the lead to 6-1 at half-time.

Third Quarter
Viwe Mbata and Mentoor continued South Africa’s dominance with further goals. Tagiwireyi added a second for Zambia, bringing the score to 8-2 heading into the final quarter.

Final Quarter
Jayden Brooker, named Player of the Tournament at the recent SA IPT, got his name on the scoresheet, followed by additional goals from Mentoor, Montgomery, and Kraai. Zambia’s final goal came through Justin Mpande, but it did little to change the outcome as South Africa sealed a 12-3 win.
