EHL and Belgian champion Jaime Carr will not be part of the Gantoise men’s first team next term as the club took the tough decision to part ways for the 2026/27 season.
It comes following a shoulder injury with the club bringing in Spaniard Adrian Rafi to mind the goal.
Posting on social media, the club stated it was an extremely difficult scenario, stating: “Some goodbyes are harder than others.
“As we prepare for a new hockey season, a new chapter begins. Unfortunately, due to the shoulder injury he is currently recovering from, Jaime Carr will not be part of our squad for the upcoming season.
“Jaime, thank you for everything. From picking up a hockey stick at just 14 years old to becoming the goalkeeper of the Irish national team, your journey has been nothing short of inspiring.
“It brought you to Belgium where, together, we celebrated multiple Belgian national titles, unforgettable victories, and memories that will last a lifetime.
“One moment will forever be etched into Gantoise history: your Man of the Match performance in the EHL Final, helping us lift our very first European title. A performance that defined not only a champion, but a leader.
“But trophies only tell part of the story. You have been an exceptional teammate, a true sportsman, a positive presence in every dressing room, and someone whose smile, kindness and character made everyone around you better.
“You wore the sky blue and white with pride, and because of that, you will forever remain part of the Gantoise family.
“Right now, our only wish is for you to make a full and successful recovery. We know the determination that has defined your career will carry you through this challenge as well. The jersey will always mean something. The door will always remain open.
“This isn’t goodbye. It’s simply “see you later.
“Once Gantoise, always Gantoise.”
