South Africa first competed in the African Games Hockey contest on return from isolation in 1995. The South African women would win the gold medal in 95, 99 and 2003 without losing a game. Hockey was then removed from the African Games events before it has now been included 21 years later with the South Africans keen to defend their crown.
For the South Africa team with eyes focused on Paris 2024 the tournament offers another opportunity for the team to develop and build their connections in tournament conditions in Accra.
Returning to the squad announced by SASCOC on the back of their successful FIH Hockey5s World Cup campaign are Dirkie Chamberlain and Rea Phume. They are the most and least experienced two members of the squad respectively.
Erin Christie, who recently earned her 100th test cap, Celia Seerane and Quanita Bobbs are the other centurions who add the experience to a youthful side that continue to grow in experience together as they continue on their journey to the Paris Olympics.
The full schedule will be shared on SA Hockey media pages once available.
