Tom Boon scores hat-trick in this Hockey Pro League duel.
The Red Lions won 5-1 (halftime: 3-0) their second Hockey Pro League duel of the weekend against Spain (FIH-9) on Saturday at the Wilrijkseplein in Antwerp. Tom Boon, author of a hat-trick, was the great architect of this success of the world N.2. When the competition resumed on Friday, the Olympic and world champions shared the challenge 3-3, later pocketing the bonus point for shoot-outs (3-2). With 15 points in 8 games, they move up to 5th place in the standings, just behind the Netherlands.
With the same core as Friday, with the difference that Loic Van Doren replaced Vincent Vanasch in goal, the Belgian domination quickly turned into a goal via a cross from William Ghislain taken over by Tom Boon (7th). On the 2nd Belgian pc, Nelson Onana managed very well a rebound conceded by the Red Sticks goalkeeper to double this lead with a backhand shot and score his first international goal (15th).
Meanwhile, Van Doren spent a quiet evening, only having to intervene on 2 opposing pc. Boon would then take care of his statistics, proving his good form at the moment. The top scorer in the Belgian championship scored a brilliant goal just before half-time, deflecting the ball, back to goal, between his legs to deceive Adrian Rafi (27th).
The Brussels man put the cover back after the break, punctuating a fine individual achievement (35th). The Spaniards saved their honor on a counter punctuated by Ignacio Rodriguez (48th), before Tanguy Cosyns, well served by Boon, fixed the score at the end of the game (57th).
Belgium now total 15 points in 8 games, 1 less than the Netherlands (16), who however have 2 games less. In front of them, India leads the dance with 27 units in 12 games, ahead of Argentina (24) and Germany (23).
Michel van den Heuvel’s men will continue the competition in the coming weeks by meeting in order France, South Africa, India and England.
