The Minister of Sports has released €30,000 to promote women’s hockey.

Hockey is on the rise, even more so since the world title and gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics won by our men’s team. The Francophone Hockey League found that there were more new registrations of male players than female.

“French-speaking hockey has a balance of players of 40% girls and 60% boys in the youth categories”, explains the Minister of Sports, Valérie Glatigny (MR). “Several studies have shown that we have significant room for improvement in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in terms of sports practice among women and young girls. This is one of the reasons for the plan to promote women’s sport that I was able to have adopted. It is therefore important to support initiatives such as these. »

Bring your girlfriend!

In 2019, the Hockey League set up the “Girl Power” project, which benefited from a major communication campaign. Following the positive feedback, the League wanted to carry out three other actions, the very ones that the Wallonia-Brussels Federation will support, with this subsidy of €30,000.

Among these actions, “Bring your girlfriend! “. During 20 events per season in the affiliated clubs, each young player will be able to bring a friend to introduce her to hockey in her club.

In addition to a symposium on the practice of hockey among teenagers, the League wants to amplify its “Girl Power” campaign by producing videos with well-known female hockey ambassadors. Objective: to send a positive message, breaking stereotypes and highlighting the importance of mentoring girls by women.
