EHL: Breathtaking first half sees Garvey power past Wettingen – EHL

Two goals in the first two minutes saw Lisnagarvey swept past the challenge of Rotweiss Wettingen and put themselves right in contention for a place at next Easter’s EHL FINALS.

They raced into a four-goal half-time lead before the Swiss side bounced back with two second half strikes but a 5-2 win means Garvey now need a draw or better on Sunday against CAM 92 to advance to the next phase.

Johnny Lynch fired them in front after just over a minute from a penalty corner switch to the left and captain Mark McNellis’s heavily deflected strike made it two with barely any time gone on the clock.

Matthew Aughey set up the next with a super run down the right baseline which left Oliver Kidd with a near-post chance which he tucked away.

And Harry Archbold slammed in the next before half-time on the backhand as Garvey looked ready to run riot.

Rotweiss – who had won 3-1 a day earlier – rallied with Jonas Winkler shooting home two corner rockets either side of Kidd’s second goal of the day.

It left them 12 minutes to try and get pull a further goal back for a losing bonus point but Garvey stayed strong and in contention to advance to the FINAL12.
