Bonn continues to be a happy hunting ground for Düsseldorfer HC as they won the German women’s title at the venue for the third time out of their four championships in total.
They won it thanks to a 3-2 shoot-out win over Mannheimer HC after normal time ended 1-1, a result which sends DHC through to the EHL Women’s FINAL8 while Mannheim will contest the FINAL12 next Easter.
DHC made a strong, going in front in the fourth minute Clara Ycart Canal won the ball in midfield and threaded a superb pass to Sara Strauss; she finished decisively past Chiara Vischer for 1-0.
Mannheim tried to respond, with Sonja Zimmermann driving play, but DHC’s defense – led by Annika Sprink, Pia Llotak, and Selin Oruz – held firm. Aside from a near chance for Strauss after a defensive slip, clear scoring chances were limited.
In the second quarter, MHC improved and generated pressure. Charlotte Gerstenhöfer, Stine Kurz, and Zimmermann all tested goalkeeper Femke Jovy but Düsseldorf maintained their narrow lead into half-time.
The second half saw Mannheim dominate possession and they finally broke through in the 51st minute when Gerstenhöfer’s cross found Nadine Fieber, who equalised in the final match of her career.
It sent the game to a shoot-out where DHC quickly gained an advantage as Friedrike Heusgen and Sophia Schwabe scored while Jovy made key saves.
Though Düsseldorf missed several match points and Mannheim equalised at 2-2, sudden death decided the contest. Heusgen converted to make it 3–2 and Lucina von der Heyde missed her attempt, sealing Düsseldorf’s victory.
It marked DHC’s fourth final win over Mannheim and their fourth German title.
