Real Club de Polo has been crowned champion of the 2026 Copa del Rey after defeating Atlètic Terrassa 1-0 in the final at Junior FC, their 34th title in 109 editions of the competition.
Small details decided a very intense final, but one with few scoring opportunities and only one goal. In the 49th minute, Nico Laplaza capitalised on a rebound and score the goal that ultimately secured the title for Ramon Sala’s team.
The first half was characterised by constant back-and-forth action and little control. Both teams traded periods of dominance but clear-cut chances were scarce. W
ith two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Polo had their first penalty corner of the game but Marc Miralles’ shot went wide to the left of Lukas Palau, who had been outstanding throughout the tournament and in the final.
A defensive lapse by Atlètic in the second half led to the second corner. Bruno Ávila took the shot which went just wide, leaving it scoreless going into the final quarter.
The goal arrived from another corner with Miralles’s shot blocked only for Laplaza to pounce, sending the Polo crowd into raptures.
Guillermo Fortuño said of the victory: “We won the final 1-0, so everything is positive. We’re very happy to retain the cup and now it’s time to think about the Final Four in a month.
“We hadn’t been at our best in the last few league matches, but here we were very compact and effective, and very solid defensively, conceding only one goal throughout the entire tournament.”
Polo’s Marcos Giralt was named goalkeeper of the tournament; Iñaki Zaldúa was MVP of the final while Miralles was the Eduardo Dualde MVP of the tournament.
