Today, 18 July, marks the start of South Asian Heritage Month, which in 2023 has the theme of “Stories to Tell”.
South Asian Heritage Month was established to honour and celebrate South Asian history and culture. It is an opportunity for everyone to appreciate the countries in South Asia and learn new things about their heritage.
England Hockey has been working with The Hockey Museum to share some of the stories of the South Asian communities within our great game.
We’re starting with an article put together by Dil Bahra, a former trustee of The Hockey Museum. It was originally written for fieldhockey.com and is now hosted by The Hockey Museum so that it remains a key part of the story of hockey.
Dil’s article covers the hosting of international hockey at Lord’s Cricket Ground since the 1960s and highlights some of the Sikh players who have represented England over the years.
