Pune, 16th March: Day 4 of the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship saw Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Hockey Bengal, Delhi Hockey and Chhattisgarh Hockey emerge victorious in their respective matches at the Major Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium Pimpri, Pune.
Uttar Pradesh Hockey earns decisive victory over Hockey Andhra Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh Hockey defeated Hockey Andhra Pradesh 11-2 in a Pool C clash to secure their first victory of the campaign. Interestingly, it was Kalyani Swarnapoodi (7’) who broke the deadlock to give Hockey Andhra Pradesh the lead. Minutes later, Shashikala (14’) equalised the scoreline and an onslaught of goals ensued for Uttar Pradesh. Indian Women’s Hockey Team forward and Captain of the Uttar Pradesh unit, Vandana Katariya (43’, 50’, 55’) was clinical in front of goal, to emerge as the top scorer of the match. Meanwhile, Indian Women’s Hockey Team forward Mumtaz Khan (27’, 47’) and Upasana Singh (35’, 46’) scored a brace each. Furthermore, Reetu Singh (27’), Swarnika Rawat (38’) and Simran Singh (57’) also etched their names on the scoresheet. In the final minutes of the match, Garlanka Varahalamma (57’) found the back of the net to double Hockey Andra Pradesh’s tally.
Hockey Bengal defeats Hockey Telangana:
In a late afternoon Pool H encounter, Hockey Bengal walked away with a resounding 11-0 victory against Hockey Telangana. The abundance of goals was powered by Horo Sanjna (4’, 20’, 21’, 38’, 44’) and Sushmita Panna (6’, 10’, 44’) while Monika Nag (7’, 40’) also scored two goals. Captain Anjna Dungdung (5) also etched her name on the scoresheet for Hockey Bengal
Delhi Hockey clinch victory against Kerala Hockey:
Delhi Hockey registered their first victory of the competition in a 4-1 victory against Kerala Hockey in a Pool B encounter. While Tanya (21’) gave Delhi a lead in the second quarter, S Shwetha (33’) pulled back an equaliser for Kerala soon after. Delhi surged ahead to find a victory on the backs of Sonali’s (37’, 59’) brace and a goal from Manshi (54’).
Chhattisgarh Hockey outplays Hockey Bihar:
In a Pool A encounter, Chhattisgarh Hockey defeated Hockey Bihar 2-0 to register their first victory of the competition. Anisha Sahu (8’) gave Chhattisgarh Hockey the early lead while Aanchal Sahu (51’) scored in the final quarter to complete the victory.
Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu is scheduled to face Hockey Gujarat in a Pool H encounter, while Hockey Uttarakhand will face Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey in a Pool G clash, later in the day
