Scotland: Scotland U21 Men lose to England at Uddingston

Scotland U21 Men 1-4 England U21 Men

Scotland U21 Men lost 4-1 to England U21 Men at Uddingston Hockey Club in the second match of a three match series. England have won two from two and the teams meet again tomorrow at noon in Uddingston.

England got off to a great start by taking an early lead. A penalty corner opportunity was launched into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Scotland came battling back and almost bagged a quick equaliser when Tom Cahalin’s deflected effort was well saved at the bottom left corner.

The home side’s great reaction to going a goal behind was rewarded when a stunning finish by Murray Banks levelled the scores. Banks fired the ball into the roof of the net on the reverse to make it 1-1.

Early in the second quarter an England penalty stroke was finely dispatched into the bottom left corner to put them 2-1 ahead.

The Scots enjoyed good possession as the quarter progressed but found England organised at the back, and clear chances limited.

Early in the second half an improvised effort by Sam Knight was blocked by the keeper at the near post, but signalled Scotland’s intent.

England thought they’d bagged a third midway through the quarter but a tremendous goal line clearance by Jedd Campbell saw him bat the ball off the line.

Scotland pressed for an equaliser in the final quarter and Banks came close with a low shot that dragged just wide of the left post.

Then a second stroke of the match for England resulted in their third goal when the ball was sunk into the top left corner for 3-1.

Moments later it was 4-1 with a penalty corner deflection finding the roof of the net from the stick of the injector.
