South African Hockey announce the appointment of Olympian Cindy Brown as the SA U21 Women’s Head Coach through to the next FIH Junior World Cup. She will be assisted by Nolwazi Nkabinde. Brown succeeds former national team mate Lenise Marais who oversaw both the 2021 and 2023 adventures.
Cindy Brown is no stranger to the Junior World Cup having represented South Africa at the 2005 edition in Chile. Brown later represented the senior women’s squad and became an Olympian in 2008 in Beijing scoring against New Zealand. She would retire with 93 test caps to her name including the FIH Hockey World Cup as well.
Brown, Nkabinde and their support team will have several challenges on the horizon starting with the SA Hockey IPT and will follow that with the Junior Africa Cup with the sites set firmly on the expanded FIH Junior World Cup 2025.
Brown is proud of the opportunity:
“It’s a massive honour and privilege to be selected to lead any South African side. I know the prestige that is involved in playing in a Junior World Cup and I want to lead the team to qualify and bring out the best in the young stars of South African Hockey. I would love to impart some of my experience to the team and share whatever knowledge I can! I really look forward to the challenge!”
South African wishes the best of luck to Brown, Nkabinde and the program on route to the FIH Junior World Cup in 2025.
