EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 5: ORANGE MEETS ENGLAND, GERMANS AGAINST BELGIANS

We have already arrived at day 5 of the European championship in Mönchengladbach. It’s the turn of the women’s teams. The Dutch won without really impressing 5-0 against Italy, one of the little ones in this tournament. Paul van Ass’s team will take on England in the semi-finals. Germany-Belgium is the other half-final.

England – Scotland

England recovered well early in the afternoon from the blow it received from Germany on Sunday. In that match, the European champion of 2015 went off 5-0. Today that score came back on the board, but in favor of the English. After the break, Belgium put things in order. Star player Charlotte Englebert led the score to 5-0. The semi-final place was therefore a fact for the number five in the world. Spain remains in the battle for survival for the next day.

Germany – Ireland

Ireland had to win against Germany to have a chance of a place in the last four. That scenario was just as unrealistic as it sounded beforehand. Sonja Zimmermann’s early opening goal – her again – already dashed a lot of Irish hopes. After a 2-0 halftime score, Germany gave gas in the final phase. Within three minutes the score rose to 5-0, causing the crowd in Gladbach to clap their hands. For statistics enthusiasts, it was an unforgettable day. Coincidentally, all four games on Tuesday ended 5-0. Undoubtedly a European Championship unique.
