The third match on Day 5 of the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023 saw host nation India deliver another commanding performance, defeating Japan 3-0. Played in front of an electrified crowd , India’s clinical display of hockey ensured they continued their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
First Half: India Takes the Lead
India began the match with high intensity, pressing Japan from the start and dominating possession. The opening goal came in the first quarter when Vandana Katariya, India’s star forward, scored with a deft touch following a well-executed field play.
Japan tried to mount a counteroffensive, but India’s defense, marshaled by the experienced Deep Grace Ekka, kept them at bay. By the end of the first half, India had firmly established control, holding a 1-0 lead.
Second Half: India Extends Their Advantage
The second half saw India continue their dominance, using quick passes and maintaining pressure on Japan’s defense. In the third quarter, Lalremsiami doubled India’s lead with a superbly timed shot from a tight angle, thrilling the home crowd.
Japan struggled to find rhythm against India’s relentless attack and resolute defense. In the final quarter, Neha Goyal put the result beyond doubt with a brilliant field goal, making it 3-0. India maintained their focus until the final whistle, ensuring another clean sheet in the tournament.
