NCAA: Bessant Appointed to IOC Revenue & Commercial Partnerships Commission

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Field Hockey is pleased to share that Board of Directors Chair Cathy Bessant has been appointed to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Revenue and Commercial Partnerships Commission.

The Revenue and Commercial Partnerships Commission is responsible for reviewing and studying possible sources of sustainable financing and revenue for the IOC and the Olympic Movement, while ensuring that control of sport remains with sports authorities. It makes recommendations to the IOC Executive Board regarding marketing, commercial partnerships and related programs and seeks means of maximizing the potential benefits to the Olympic Movement available through association and synergies with marketing and commercial partners.

“I am honored to be appointed to the IOC Commission by IOC President Thomas Bach,” commented Bessant. “I look forward to bringing my experience in the worlds of global finance, field hockey and sports management in support of the Olympic movement; and to continue to develop opportunities for global sport alongside IOC Solidarity Commission member and FIH President Tayyab Ikram.”

International Hockey Federation President Tayyab Ikram congratulated Bessant on her appointment and said, “Many, many congratulations to Cathy. It’s wonderful to see her get appointed to the crucial role in the IOC Revenue and Commercial Partnerships Commission. This is a thoroughly deserved appointment and it’s heartening to see yet another member of the [field] hockey family make a valuable contribution to the IOC. I would also like to thank IOC President Thomas Bach on behalf of the [field] hockey community for appointing Cathy to this role, where I’m certain she will excel.”

Also sitting on this Commission is United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee Board of Directors Chair Gene Sykes.
