Scotland: Clydesdale Western go top of the women`s Premiership

Clydesdale Western are having a great season so far and their 3-0 win over women’s Premiership champions Watsonians at Titwood is undoubtedly confirmation of that. The result also preserves Clydesdale`s perfect record for the season. The Titwood-based outfit are now two points ahead of Watsonians and they still have a game in hand against Reivers. Clydesdale`s goals came from Anna Winter, Ali Howie and finally Millie Steiger.

GHK confirmed their third place status with a comfortable 4-0 win over Glasgow University and are now only two points adrift of Watsonians. On target were Lucy Williamson; Tamilla Matchett; Joanne Boyle; and Ellie Hutcheson.

Edinburgh University held on to fourth place after a 6-1 win over Hillhead. Itske Hooftman was top scorer with a hat-trick, Ava Findlay grabbed a couple while Harriet Platt got the other. Lucy Langlands got Hillhead’s consolation in the third quarter.

Meanwhile Western Wildcats confirmed their top six place in some style with a nine goal victory over Fjordhus Reivers at Tweedbank. It was four at half-time through Hazel Murison; Ailise Milroy; Kate Holmes at a penalty corner and Steph Curran.   Further goals were added in the third quarter with Fran Lonergan, Lexi Macmillan and Rachel Bain for seven. In the final analysis two more Wildcats` strikes came in the last quarter through Liv Finch and Alex Stuart to complete the scoring.

Uddingston and St Andrews University played out a goalless draw – a result that probably did not really help either side`s aspirations for a top six spot. The students had most of the clear-cut chances but found the Uddy keeper in fine form and failed to find a way past her. Ironically St Andrews move above Glasgow University following the latter`s defeat today.

Meanwhile Grange are mounting their own campaign for a top six place with a 5-1 win over neighbours Inverleith. The catalyst was Grange`s clinical finishing in front of goal and at penalty corners, and the goals came from Rachel Shiel; Heather Croll; Kirsten Turnbull; Jen Cain; and Vic White, while Steph Bain replied for Inverleith.
