Returning to their home turf for the first time since their historic Quarter Final appearance at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup, the South African Indoor Hockey Men are primed for action. Fueled by Tops at SPAR, they’re geared up to take on Namibia and the USA in the inaugural Kathea Energy Nkosi Cup, igniting the indoor hockey fervor in Cape Town.
Their encounter with the USA in the FIH World Cup showcased a gripping showdown, while a recent face-off against Namibia in the Sultan Nazrin Shah Cup ended in a shootout defeat. The Nkosi Cup marks an opportunity to cap off the year triumphantly, a crucial step en route to the 2024 African Indoor Hockey Qualifiers.
The squad, missing several World Cup luminaries, welcomes back Dayaan Cassiem, Mustapha Cassiem, Dan Sibbald, Anton van Loggerenberg, and Ryan Julius. Notably, Cullin de Jager, Hans Neethling, and Lerou Dithakanyane are poised for their inaugural test cap under the tutelage of Justin Rosenberg and his coaching team.
Coach Rosenberg shared, “It’s an honor and a privilege to showcase our talents in front of the passionate South African fans. We’re thrilled to offer the Western Cape a thrilling festival of indoor hockey while fortifying our squad depth for the upcoming 2024 African Hockey Indoor Cup of Nations.”
The Nkosi Cup promises riveting action from December 15-19 at the Wynberg Military Base, with tickets available via the SA Hockey fan app.
