The defending England Hockey League Premier Division Champions Old Georgians advanced to the next round of the Euro Hockey League 2023-24 with successive wins in the KO16 held between 06-08 October 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.
OGs started the weekend with a dominating 5-1 win over German club Mannheimer HC in their first match of KO16 on Friday. England and GB star Sam Ward (47′, 56′) bagged a brace, while Alan Forsyth (8′), Lee Morton (16′) and James Carson (42′) scored a goal each for OGs. Luis Holste (4′) scored the lone goal for the German club.
They then edged past Belgian side Waterloo Ducks HC 3-2 in the second match of the weekend to seal a spot in the next round. The Belgian club broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute through Vitor Charlet, but Ward equalised in the 26th minute. Charlet again restored Waterloo Ducks in the 37th minute, but Forsyth scored the second equaliser for OGs in the 40th minute. Chris Proctor then went on to score the winner in the 49th minute for the OGs.
Meanwhile, Holcombe started the weekend with a 4-2 win against Racing Club de France. Nick Bandurak (7′, 51′) starred with a brace, Phil Roper (23′) and Tom Russell (36′) scored a goal each for the English club. Christophe Peters-Deutz (14′, 49′) scored the two goals for the French club.
However, they lost 0-1 to the hosts Real Club de Polo in their second match of the weekend held on Sunday. Guillermo Fortuño scored the goal in the first minute of the closely contested match.
