Defending champion Rijswijk has qualified for the quarterfinals of the Silver Cup Men’s by a narrow victory over Houten (1-0). In the eighth finals of the second cup tournament, the three remaining second division teams were eliminated on Friday.
In what was labeled beforehand as the cracker of the eighth finals, Rijswijk recorded a 1-0 victory over Houten. The match between the two first-classers was extra in the spotlight because of their recent cup history: Houten became cup winners in 2022, while Rijswijk clinched the Silver Cup last year and reached the final in 2023.
For the last three remaining second division teams, the curtain fell in the eighth finals. Leusden went down 3-0 against Maarssen and Shot (4-2 against Union) and Pollux (2-0 against Ommoord) were also eliminated.
Shoot-outs
Two matches ended in a draw and had to be decided by shoot-outs. Hoorn prevailed after a 0-0 draw against Spandersbosch, while Wageningen qualified for the quarterfinals by beating Kromhouters after a 2-2 final score in the decisive shoot-out series.
In the remaining matches Zwart-Wit recorded a narrow 4-3 victory over Derby and Delta Venlo was 4-1 too strong for Nuenen to qualify for the last eight of the Silver Cup.
Next Monday a draw will be made for the quarterfinals, which will be played on Friday, April 11. Rijswijk, Maarssen, Hoorn, Zwart-Wit, Ommoord, Union, Delta Venlo and Wageningen will decide who will advance to the semi-finals of the Silver Cup Men.
