New Zealand: North Men Complete Sweep as South Women Win Their Series

NZ Women - New Zealand: North Men Complete Sweep as South Women Win Their Series - The 2022 Sentinel Homes has come to close in Hamilton, after three days of competitive hockey, in front of vibrant local crowds.

The South women were able to take their series by responding well to Saturday’s loss and winning match three 2-1. The North men continued their dominance with a convincing X-X victory to sweep the series over the South

The series provided quality hockey that will give selectors plenty to ponder as they select their 22 for the upcoming Trans Tasman series next month.

The women’s match continued in the same fashion as the first two in another close encounter. All goals were scored in the first half with Olivia Shannon and Megan Hull scoring for the South and Steph Dickins once again showing her prowess from the penalty corner and slotting in another drag flick. The North were unable to overcome staunch defence and some poor discipline in the second half, receiving two green cards.

It was the Sean Findlay show in the men’s match up as the North once again proved too much for the South. Indomitable in the midfield Findlay also chipped in with two first half goals including an absolute ripper from just inside the circle. Liam Mortimer opened the North’s account in the 8th minute, while Hayden Phillips scored early in the second half with a good old fashioned hit from a penalty corner. Simon Yorston scored the South’s only goal of the match, poking the ball in amongst the bodies from a penalty corner.

The U21 Sentinel Homes North vs South also wrapped up with the North women and South men securing bragging rights until next year.

The U21 North women found the rhythm they had on Thursday and snagged a 2-0 win over the South. The U21 men reverted to their goal scoring antics, after 7 goals in the opening match, with the South running out winners 3-2.

North Men 4 (Sean Findlay 2, Liam Mortimer, Hayden Phillips) South Men 1 (Simon Yorston)

North Women 1 (Steph Dickins) South Women 2 (Olivia Shannon, Megan Hull)

U21 North Men 2 (Connor Garner, Aiden Fraser) U21 South Men 3 (Matthew Wilson, Harrison Darling, Daniel Torr)
