Oceania: Gold for the Fiji Women

The Solomon Island’s Womens hockey team were the team to make significant advances in their technical hockey skills after coming home from the Gold Coast. Their fitness levels were not in question but their tactical awareness and base hockey skill needed improvement. They worked hard, with the support of their Australian mentor coach Leroy Phillips, and this paid off and showed with their performance at the Pacific Games where they played in the final and drew a large following of local supporters.

Tonga played PNG in the bronze medal match and although they lost 2-0 their results to get to the 4th position demonstrated how far they have come in their game development in the past 3 years.

Fiji Women were the dominant team throughout the competition and thoroughly deserved their top placing, although the  Solomon Islands team certainly gave them a scare in that it was still nil all at half time.

See the attached result details.
