PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Maccabi USA Field Hockey Chair Meredith Shifman along with Head Coaches Candice Fisher and Abgail Goldberg, and Assistant Coaches, Gianna Duddy and Sarah Cooper, are pleased to announce the Open and U-16 Field Hockey Teams for the 15th Pan American Maccabi Games which will take place December 27, 2023 – January 4, 2024 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Maccabi USA will bring a team of approximately 700 athletes who will join the other 4,000 Jewish athletes from 24 countries, participating in 58 different sports.

“Maccabi USA is sending two field hockey teams to the upcoming Pan American Maccabi Games in Buenos Aires,” said Shifman. “We regularly send an Open Women’s team to international competition, but this year we are thrilled to also send a U-16 Girls’ team to compete in a pool with teams from Argentina and Chile. This is a significant milestone for us and the timing is especially poignant this year. We’re excited to continue Maccabi USA’s Mission of building Jewish pride through sports and to help grow the sport of field hockey by offering this life-changing athletic and cultural experience to more girls and women.”

ABOUT THE PAN AMERICAN MACCABI GAMES

The Pan American Maccabi Games The Games are hosted by the Confederacion Latinoamericana Maccabi (CLAM). They are conducted in cooperation with Maccabi World Union and are held every four years, two years after the Maccabiah. The Pan American Maccabi Games are a high-level athletic competition for Jewish athletes all over the world aimed at connecting Jews from the Diaspora. They celebrate the thriving Jewish tradition throughout Latin America and the Jewish People Globally with delegations from North America, Europe, Australia, South Africa, and Israel in attendance.

ABOUT THE MACCABIAH

The first Maccabiah was held in Israel in 1932 with athletes from 18 countries. By 2017, the games grew to include nearly 10,000 Jewish athletes from more than 60 countries, making it the second largest international multi-sport event, and one of the largest gatherings of the Jewish diaspora around the globe. Traditionally held every four years, the games have only been interrupted twice in its 90-year history: by the Second World War and more recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In July 2022, Maccabi USA sent its largest-ever delegation of more than 1,300 to Israel. (Larger delegation than the traditional USA Olympic

Team)

ABOUT MACCABI USA – Maccabi USA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with an extensive history of enriching Jewish lives through athletic, cultural and educational programs. Maccabi USA is the official sponsor of the United States team to the World Maccabiah Games, the Pan American and European Maccabi Games, and the Maccabi Youth Games, as well as a sponsor of the JCC Maccabi Games for teens in North America.
