Rachael Lynch OAM and Kary Chau have hung up their sticks after an impressive 20-year career representing Victoria. The duo made their debut at the senior state level in 2004 and have been instrumental in the success of the Vipers and HC Melbourne.

Lynch, a dual Olympian and FIH World Goalkeeper of the Year in 2019, totalled a remarkable 233 caps for the Hockeyroos. She was a key player in Australia’s World Cup silver medal and two Commonwealth Games gold medals. Chau also represented the Hockeyroos, earning 11 caps.

Hockey Victoria CEO Andrew Skillern praised the pair’s dedication and impact on the sport, “Both Rachael and Kary are legends of our sport. Their retirement marks the end of an era for Victorian hockey. We thank them for their incredible contributions and wish them all the best in the future.”

Lynch expressed her gratitude for the opportunities and friendships she’s gained, “Victorian Hockey has given us 20 years of wonderful experiences. We’ve been able to travel Australia, compete at the highest level, and build lifelong friendships.”

Chau also reflected on her career, highlighting the camaraderie and passion that kept her motivated, “I’m very humbled to have represented Victoria for so long. The group of women I’ve played alongside has been incredible, and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

“Both Rach and Kary have shown incredible longevity and commitment to the sport,” said HC Melbourne Women’s Assistant Coach, Stacia Strain. “Their dedication and passion have been inspiring. It’s an incredible achievement and a testament to not only their talent but more importantly their commitment, resilience and passion they have for the game.”

As Lynch and Chau retire, they leave behind a legacy of excellence, longevity and will continue to inspire future generations of Hockey players.
