Lightning 3-3(3-2) Devils

Emerging Boys

A superb contest to get day three underway ended in a 3-3 draw between Lightning and Devils emerging boys, with Lightning winning the shootout 3-2 for the bonus point.

It was a competitive and tight start to the contest with both sides largely cancelling each other out. The best chance of the opening quarter came from a penalty corner and an Olly Pillinger drag flick prompted a great save at the top left corner by Andrew Craig.

The second quarter began with another sensational stop by Craig, this time a reaction save to his left from close range.

As half time approached Lightning finally found the back of the net through a lovely penalty corner routine. Conor Wardlaw picked out Pillinger who deflected the ball into the top right corner for 1-0.

In the second half Devils had the chance to equalise from the penalty spot but Matthew Ogg was denied by a solid save to keep it at 1-0.

Lightning doubled their lead as the third quarter came to a close when Angus Fletcher struck a low drag flick for 2-0.

Early in the final quarter a lovely corner routinr saw Murray Cameron deflect home for Devils to make it 2-1.

Then Devils struck and equaliser. A swift counter found Angus Nichol in space, who then rounded the keeper and slotted home for 2-2.

Moments later it was Lightning’s turn to counter attack and Fletcher ran through to finish with composure for 3-2.

With the last strike of the ball Brian McGarrity equalised for Devils with a hard low shot for a 3-3 finale. The bonus point went to Lightning with a 3-2 shootout victory.

Lightning 6-0(2-3) Devils

A 6-0 win for Lightning Emerging girls saw them take the points at Peffermill against Devils, but it was the Devils who took the bonus point in the shootout.

Lightning started fast and fashioned some early opportunities, and it was from one of these early efforts that the home side found the net.

Sophie Hogarth opened the scoring with a delightful scot into the roof of the net from a tight angle. 1-0.

Early in the second quarter it went to 2-0 when the ball was popped over the line by Amelia Leitch in a stramash of players.

It went to 3-0 with a goal by Larissa Hogg from the penalty spot before a drag flick deflection Jasmine Mather made it 4-0 just before half time.

In the second half a sliding shot by Grace Mitchinson made it 5-0 for Lightning before a penalty corner strike by Freya Ballantine made it 6-0.

A penalty stroke was awarded to Devils in the final quarter but a fantastic save low at the right post denied the goal.  A 3-2 win for Devils in the shootout saw them take the bonus point.

Aspiring Boys

Lightning 0-2(1-2) Devils

Northern Devils Aspiring Boys clocked up a 2-0 win over Lightning at Peffermill in Brave Cup 2024. Devils also took the bonus point with a 2-1 shootout victory.

It was a tight opening quarter with few chances for either team. Findlay Duncan came close for Devils with a fierce penalty corner strike that hit the goal stanchion. Right before the end of the quarter a Lightning corner routine saw the ball deflected past the post at pace.

The second quarter continued to be close and competitive, with Lightning edging the play, but no real opportunities to strike at goal.

Just after half time Devils created the best chance of the game so far when they opened up Lightning down the right and the pass across goal begged for a tap-in, but it evaded Zack Aspey and whizzed clear.

It was the final quarter when the deadlock was finally broken, and it came from the penalty spot. A stroke was awarded to Devils and Duncan stepped up to send the ball into the bottom right corner for 1-0.

Duncan struck again from the penalty spot right before full time to seal the points with a 2-0 victory. Devils then took the bonus point with a 2-1 shootout victory.
