England: 1st Half Of The Super 6s Leagues Review

This weekend saw the first half of the Super 6s leagues with teams in the Premier Divisions looking for a top finish, and a place at the finals in Derby on Sunday 28 January.

In the Women’s Premier Division, Buckingham, England’s representatives in Europe next month, enjoyed a great weekend winning all four of the games to put them top of the table on 12 points at the halfway stage. East Grinstead and Slough are two points back after drawing 2-2 in their meeting and both winning their other three games.  Holders Repton are currently in seventh place with 3 points but that is only three behind Surbiton who sit fourth and with each team having a further four games the door is open for them, Guildford (6 points) and Harleston (4 points) to secure a top four finish if they have a strong second weekend.

Old Georgians lead the way in the Mens Premier Division with a 100% record. Wimbledon, who pipped OGs in the final last year, are three points back having suffered a loss at the hands of Sevenoaks. Team Bath Buccaneers recovered from a loss to Hampstead in their first game to record three consecutive wins and trail Wimbledon on goal difference. Sevenoaks are fourth with 7 points and only four points separate them and Holcombe who are eighth which means plenty more twists and turns next weekend in the battle to reach the semi-finals.

Beeston top Mens Division One with four wins out of four, two points ahead of Southgate. Womens Division One is tighter with only three points separating Reading who are top and Beeston fifth. Beeston also have a game in hand, as do second placed Sutton Coldfield, after the withdrawal of Stourport necessitated a late schedule change.

The top three teams in Division Two North and South from this weekend all qualify for Division Two in a fortnight’s time.   The make-up of these Divisions is as follows:

Womens –  Clifton Robinsons, Lansdown, Southgate (South); Cambridge Uni, Wakefield, Birmingham Uni (North)

Mens – Ipswich, Reading, Guildford; Bowdon, Bristol Uni, Deeside (North)
