OPEN/MEN’S DIVISIONS
Indian Gymkhana who led Open/Men’s Division One South going into the weekend’s fixtures let slip a 2-0 half time lead to draw 2-2 with Sevenoaks. This allowed Exeter University, 3-1 winners over Old Loughtonians to go a point above them. Third placed Guildford remain unbeaten and are now level on points with Gymkhana after a 4-3 defeat of bottom of the table Havant who have yet to pick up a point. Cameron Baker scored two of Guildford’s goals, Viacheslav Paziuk did likewise for Havant although his second an overtime corner came too late to change the outcome. Second bottom Surbiton 2s suffered a similar fate, losing 3-2 to Canterbury with Will Hapsel’s second also a 70th minute corner when the result was assured. The welcome three points mean Canterbury are now five points clear of Surbiton. The West London derby between Richmond and Teddington ended 3-3, Josh Smith netting a 69th minute equaliser for Richmond whose other two goals both came from Scott Wall.
Repton went five points clear at the top of Division One North thanks to their 2-1 win against Nottingham University. Their lead at the top is extended as Loughborough Students, their closest rivals before play, went down by the same scoreline at Harborne for whom Louie Morris converted a last gasp corner. Bowdon go second above Loughborough on goal difference, in no small part due to a 13-0 win over Olton & West Warwicks. Eight different players were on the scoresheet for Bowdon with Simon Egerton netting four including a hat-trick of strokes. There was a first win of the campaign for Birmingham University beating Deeside Ramblers 4-1 to move off the foot of the table. Timperley now occupy that place after their 6-2 defeat at Durham University.
Crucial late goals were the order of the day in Conference North where no game was decided by more than one. Leeds top the Division after a 3-2 defeat of Newcastle University. Newcastle had fought back from 2-0 down to tie things up at 2-2 with five minutes to go but Ed Wheeler hit a late winner for Leeds. Neston who were level on points with Leeds prior to play let a two-goal lead slip at Sheffield for whom Harry Faulkner scored in the 69th minute to make it 3-2. Doncaster are level with them after beating Lindum 1-0, Travis Cresswell’s 68th minute stroke the only goal of the game. Alistair Mackenzie scored twice for Oxton who picked up a first point a 2-2 draw with Durham University 2s; it would have been three but for a 69th minute equaliser from Will Marshall. Alfie Doel also scored with a minute to go to give Didsbury Northern a 2-1 win over Ben Rhydding.
Chichester remain ahead of Clifton Robinsons on goal difference at the top of Conference West after wins for both teams. Chichester were comfortable 4-0 winners over Ashmoor, Clifton had a tighter game beating local rivals Bristol University 3-2 with Ben Stone scoring twice, as did Will Owens for the students. Team Bath Buccaneers go above Ashmoor in third after a 3-2 win at bottom of the table Exeter University 2s. Luca Gormley netted the winner with a minute left after Alexander Renwick had scored their other two goals. Elsewhere there were 4-2 home wins for Fareham over Isca and Marlow over Cardiff & Met 2s.
Hampstead & Westminster 2s stay a point clear in Conference East after their 4-3 win at Holcombe 2s. Matthew Guise-Brown, who has retired from 1st team hockey scored twice for Hampstead as did Mubashar Ali for Holcombe. Elsewhere all results also went the way of the away teams. London Wayfarers won 2-1 at Bromley & Beckenham to replace them in second place. Chelmsford move up to fourth after their 1-0 at Spencer. Bottom of the table Brighton & Hove enjoyed their first win of the season, 2-1 at Southgate 2s to move within a point of the home team. Wimbledon 2s raced into a first quarter four goal lead at Old Cranleighan. OCs came back to 4-3 with twenty minutes left but couldn’t find an equaliser.
It was a close weekend in Conference Midlands with none of the games decided by more than a goal. Leaders Leek looked set for a 3-3 draw at Birmingham University 2s before a 68th minute winner from Max Evenett. Birmingham drop to the bottom of the table. Oxford Hawks stay second thanks to a 3-2 win at City of Peterborough. Jack Jones was alone in scoring for Nottingham University 2s in their 1-0 defeat of Norwich City that keeps them third. St Albans are fourth and unbeaten but have drawn four out of six games including Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Banbury. It was the same scoreline in the Stourport – Barford Tigers encounter, a point which means Tigers move off the foot of the table.

WOMEN’S DIVISIONS
Buckingham went to the top of Women’s Division One North thanks to a 4-1 in over Sutton Coldfield with Sophie Crawshay hitting a first half hat-trick. Previous leaders Gloucester City now trail them by two points in third after losing 3-2 at Repton for whom Maya Christopher scored twice. Loughborough Students 2s move up to second place after their 3-1 win over Leeds. Pendle Forest go fourth after a 2-1 win at bottom of the table Olton & West Warwicks. Beeston got back to winning ways after two losses, defeating Ben Rhydding 4-0.
Division One South leaders Exeter University had a top of the table clash with Reading 2s and beat them 3-2. Lily St Clair scored twice as Exeter go three points clear and Reading drop to third. Teddington move up to second, above Reading on goal difference, thanks to a 4-1 win at Southgate 2s. Holcombe are fourth after a second successive defeat, 3-2 at home to Guildford, the visitors; first win of the campaign. Sevenoaks also won for the first time, 3-2 at home to Bristol Firebrands, so they and Guildford move four points clear of bottom of the table Harleston Magpies who went down 8-1 at home to Surbiton 2s for whom Liselot Mander scored four. Harleston remain without a point.
It was a day for draws in Conference West with four of the five games ending all-square. Leaders Cardiff & Met dropped points for the first time in a 1-1 draw with Cheltenham. However they still extended their lead at the top as closest rivals team Team Bath Buccaneers were the only team to lose, 3-2 at home to Trojans. Jessica Cottee netted a 69th minute equaliser for third placed Oxford University who drew 2-2 at Marlow. Lansdown drew 1-1 with Exeter and the game involving the bottom two between Clifton Robinsons 2s and Slough also ended one apiece, Slough’s first point of the campaign.
Lucy Tennant scored the only goal of the game as Bowdon 2s won 1-0 at now bottom of the table Didsbury Northern to top Conference North. Alderley Edge, who were level on points going into Saturday’s games lost their 100% record in a 3-3 draw at home to third placed Newcastle University. In mid table Fylde won 3-2 at Whitley Bay & Tynemouth. Kirkby Stephen moved off the foot of the table with their first win, 2-0 at home to Durham University 2s. They go above Wakefield and Shefield into seventh, those sides drawing their Yorkshire derby 0-0.
Conference Midlands remains a close Division with only three points separating the teams from 1st to 6th. St Albans who led going into the weekend went down 3-2 at Cambridge City. Isobel Johnson’s 68th minute winner condemned Saints to their first loss. Cambridge went above St Albans but were themselves overtaken, on goal difference by Leicester City on the back of their 8-1 defeat of bottom of the table Harleston Magpies 2s. Isla Fennell scoring four of Leicester’s goals. Hannah Saxton hit a 69th minute winner for Nottingham Trent University at Oxford Hawks. The 2-1 result means Trent go seventh above Oxford who drop to ninth. Stourport are between them after losing 2-1 at Cannock. Birmingham University 2s and Cambridge University played out a 1-1 draw.
Goals were in short supply in Conference East with only one game recording more than one. Spencer won 1-0 at previous leaders Old Loughtonians thanks to a last minute field goal from Ella Watt to take over at the top, Loughts drop to fourth. London Wayfarers won by the same scoreline at Barnes 2s to go second, Hampstead & Westminster 2s were the top scorers wining 4-1 at Canterbury. Canterbury slip to ninth as Wapping moved above them after a 0-0 draw at home to Wimbledon 2s. Old Georgians won at bottom of the table Guildford 2s 1-0.
