England: Commonwealth Games Statement

We are disappointed that hockey will not be included in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, a decision that overlooks a sport with a proud history and strong presence across Commonwealth nations. We do however understand that the organisers had to make some tough choices for the event due to the financial restraints put on them.

Hockey has always held a special place in the Commonwealth Games, and we are incredibly proud of the long history and success our teams have enjoyed on this stage, including England Women winning gold and England men winning bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Many of our athletes have cherished the chance to represent their home nation, and we know this change will be felt by them and our fans.

That said, there’s still much to look forward to in the coming years. We have confirmed the hosting of FIH Hockey Pro League for the next three seasons, and in 2027, we’ll have the incredible opportunity to engage all Home Nations fans in England with the EuroHockey Championships. This will be a fantastic chance to showcase the talent and passion of our teams and bring the excitement of international hockey directly to our communities.

We remain hopeful and confident that future organisers will restore hockey to the Games, where it has long thrived and inspired. In the meantime, we’re focused on FIH Hockey Pro League and making the 2027 EuroHockey Championships a true celebration of our sport.
