An 18-strong men’s squad of Under 21 players are putting the finishing touches to their preparations for the Sultan of Johor Cup.
The five-day competition starts on 19 October as the GB team takes on the likes of India, Australia and New Zealand.
The squad features 12 players who have competed at this Sultan of Johor Cup before and new players as the tournament provides an excellent development opportunity for players to experience large crowds, tournament hockey and non-European opposition.
Lewis Wilcher (Wimbledon) has been selected as the team captain and Tommy Austin (Kelburne) and Calum Douglas (Southgate) have featured in Scotland’s senior squad. Kaden Draysey (Peter Symonds Coll/Wimbledon) and Caspar Lea (Solihull Sch/Uni of Birmingham) are making their progression into the GB Under 21s from the England Under 18 squad.
In recent years, GB has enjoyed success with first place finishes in 2018 and 2019 and a number of players have used this event to gain valuable experience ahead of joining senior teams.
Scotland’s Jamie Telfer has been selected to be one of the tournament’s umpires.
