EHL: Amsterdam and SCHC make up half of latest Dutch panel

Seven AH&BC Amsterdam stars and a quintet of SCHC players account for half of the latest Dutch women’s side that will travel to India next week for the latest phase of the FIH Pro League.

From Amsterdam, Felice Albers (pictured), Fay van der Elst, Ilse Kapelle, Freeke Moes, Marijn Veen, Anne Veenendaal and Maria Verschoor are all in the line-up.

From SCHC, Pien DIcke, Yibbi Jansen, Renée van Laarhoven, Lisa Post and Elzemiek Zandee are all in the 24-player panel that will take in eight fixtures over 15 days.

Xan de Waard will remain in the Netherlands to allow her optimal recuperation from a recent injury.

From the wider panel, Kyra Fortuin, Sabine Plönissen, Lidewij Welten and Julia Remmerswaal are also not taking part in this trip.

Speaking about those decisions, coach Paul van Ass said: “Lidewij Welten and Kyra Fortuin were both unable to participate last summer due to injuries.

“Others have developed in such a way since then to move into that space. We have therefore decided not to take these two players to the Olympic Games.

“These were difficult conversations; Kyra and Lidewij have both been with the Dutch team for years.

“And without wanting to disrespect Kyra, Lidewij in particular has an enormous track record and has meant a lot to Dutch hockey for years but we felt we had to make this decision now.

“I also spoke with Julia and Sabine. Julia remains our third goalkeeper and will join the training group again after India. As far as Sabine is concerned, we are now taking stock of her place in the Dutch team. However, we will continue to follow her in Hoofdklasse.”

Elsewhere, Amsterdam’s Noor de Baat and Floor de Haan are in Oman with the Dutch Hockey 5s side who scored double-figures in their first two fixtures of that code’s World Cup.
