EHL: Ward inspires OGs to Ranking Match win over Léo

Sam Ward inspired Old Georgians to a 3-2 Ranking Match win over Royal Léopold, a result which earns them a fifth place finish with the Belgians taking seventh overall.

Arthur Verdussen’s powerful hit started the scoring from the right side of the circle in the 10th minute. Sam Ward responded from his side’s fourth corner to make it 1-1 but Léo were back in front when Nelson Onana ran onto a long ball a poked home a first time shot on the run.

Ward, though, levelled for a second time when a long pass found Alan Forsyth in the left corner and his perfect cross was deflected in by the diving striker.

And Ashley Jackson slotted his second goal of the weekend to complete the win midway through the third quarter.
