A year after escaping relegation, Amsterdam is back on the hockey throne. In a buzzing Wagener Stadium, the Amsterdammers beat Kampong 2-1, after which shoot-outs were the deciding factor.

In doing so, they brushed aside the 4-3 defeat from the outgoing game and clinched their 22nd national title – the first since 2012.

Kampong took an early lead through penalty corner cannon Jip Janssen. That forced Amsterdam into two goals to force extension. Boris Burkhardt and Floris Middendorp flicked it in the first three minutes of the second half, bringing the score to 5-5 over two matches.

In the blood-curdling final stages, both teams still had chances, but goalkeepers Joren Romijn (Amsterdam) and the departing David Harte (Kampong) held out. In the shoot-outs, young goalkeeper Olivier Paalman – he replaced Joren Romijn under the crossbar – stopped an effort by Terrance Pieters, after which Burkhardt took the decisive penalty stroke – after his team-mate Mustapha Cassiem had been fouled.

For Amsterdam, this title tasted extra sweet: from survival in 2024 to champion in 2025. Kampong, the 2024 champion, was left empty-handed, despite a strong campaign.
