New Delhi, 1st October 2023: The opening day of the 1st Hockey India Sub Junior Men & Women North Zone Championship 2023 in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed Hockey Haryana and Hockey Punjab register wins in their respective matches in the Sub Junior Women’s category, while Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Hockey Haryana, and Hockey Punjab emerged victorious in their respective games of the Sub Junior Men’s category.
The first match of the National Championship saw Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Himachal by 7-0 in the Sub Junior Women’s category. Manjinder (2’, 12’, 30’) and Megha (5’, 17’, 58’) led the goalscoring efforts for Hockey Haryana, scoring a hat-trick each, while Captain Diksha (51’) also stepped up to put the result beyond any doubt.
Hockey Punjab defeated Hockey Uttarakhand by 11-0 in the second match in the Sub Junior Women’s category. The goalscorers for Hockey Punjab were Saloni (18’), Sukhmeet Kamboj (21’), Captain Sanna (25’, 45’), Maskeenpreet Kaur (30’, 31’, 39’), Kaur Gagandeep (32’, 49’), Kaur Ridhampreet (41’), and Tanu Rani (60’).
In the third match, Uttar Pradesh Hockey beat Hockey Chandigarh by 7-0 in the Sub Junior Men’s category. Captain Ali Shahruk (7’, 30’, 40’) led by example, scoring a hat-trick for Uttar Pradesh Hockey. He found support in the form of goals from Ashvani Singh (11’), Ajay Kumar Gond (29’), and Satyam Pandey (35’, 50’) to seal the victory.
The fourth match of the day was a goalfest as Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Himachal by 26-1 in the Sub Junior Men’s category. Captain Amit (2’, 14’) opened the account for Hockey Haryana, followed by goals from Rohit Singh (5’, 43’, 54’), Sachin (13’, 15’, 26’, 53’, 58’, 60’), Karan (14’), Ankush (19’), Monu (20’), Sonu (23’, 52’), Shubhdeep Singh (24’, 47’, 57’), Tushar (27’), Rohit (29’), Aman (33’, 49’, 49’, 56’), and Harsh (58’). The lone goal for Hockey Himachal was scored by Manpreet Singh (46’).
The last match of the day witnessed Hockey Punjab beat Hockey Uttarakhand by 16-1 in the Sub Junior Men’s category. Jagjit Singh (4’, 17’, 37’), Taranjot Singh (10’, 36’), Singh Gourav (12’, 44’), Ajaypal Singh (14’), Charanjeet Singh (25’, 60′), Singh Anmol (41’), Uttkarsh (43’), Singh Bikramjit (52’, 59’, 60’), and Singh Yuvraj (57’) scored to build a solid lead for Hockey Punjab. Meanwhile, Captain Nitin Bohra (50’) scored the only goal for Hockey Uttarakhand.
