New Delhi, 29th September 2023: The group stage of the 1st Hockey India Sub Junior Men & Women East Zone Championship 2023 concluded on Friday in Ranchi, Jharkhand. In the Sub Junior Women’s category, Hockey Association of Odisha secured the top position with 13 points, closely followed by Hockey Jharkhand at 12 points. Having secured top 2 places in the points table, Hockey Association of Odisha and Hockey Jharkhand have confirmed their place in the Final and will be up against one another on Saturday at 10:00 hrs.

Manipur Hockey and Hockey Bihar claimed the third and fourth positions with 10 and 6 points respectively, and will face off in the 3rd/4th place match at 06:30 hrs.

In the Sub Junior Men’s category, Hockey Association of Odisha emerged as the table toppers with 15 points, trailed by Hockey Jharkhand at 12 points. The two teams will now face one another in the Final on Saturday at 11:45 hrs. Manipur Hockey and Hockey Bihar stood at the third and fourth positions with 9 and 6 points respectively and will lock horns in the 3rd/4th place match at 08:15 hrs.

Hockey Bihar and Hockey Jharkhand won the Sub Junior Women’s category matches today at the 1st Hockey India Sub Junior Men & Women East Zone Championship 2023 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, while Hockey Bihar and Hockey Association of Odisha won their respective games in the Sub Junior Men’s category.

The first match of the day ended as a 3-3 draw between Manipur Hockey and Hockey Association of Odisha in Pool A of the Sub Junior Women’s category. The goalscorers for Manipur Hockey were Bidyaluxmi Devi Hudrom (33’), Seram Henthoi Chanu (38’), and Jerina Chongtham (51’) while Drupati Naik (34’), Patel Pragya (49’), and Kandulna Priyanka (59’) got on the scoresheet for Hockey Association of Odisha.

In the second match of the day, Hockey Bihar defeated Assam Hockey by 11-0 in Pool A of the Sub Junior Women’s category. Singh Sapna (12’, 17’, 56’), Bijli Kumari (20’, 27’, 44’, 47’), and Akansha Yadav (25’, 28’, 33’, 36’) scored to ensure victory for Hockey Bihar.

Hockey Jharkhand beat Hockey Bengal by 12-0 in the third match of the day in Pool A of the Sub Junior Men’s category. Hemrom Leoni (4’, 21’) opened the account for Hockey Jharkhand, followed by goals from Captain Anupriya Soreng (18’, 48’), Minz Radhika (26’, 28’), Lakra Ankita (26’, 27’), Aind Neha (41’), Mundri Saroj (44’, 54’), Horo Esther (47’).

In the fourth match of the day Hockey Bihar beat Assam Hockey by 3-0 in Pool A of the Sub Junior Men’s category. Kumar Vinay (19’), Ali Md Atif (38’), and Amritanshu Pandey (51’) scored to confirm three points for Hockey Bihar.

The last match of the day saw Hockey Association of Odisha defeat Hockey Jharkhand by 5-1 in Pool A of the Sub Junior Men’s category. Lakra Ashish (13’), Lakra Salman (28’, 57’), and Xaxa Sandeep (47’, 53’) scored to build a comfortable lead for Hockey Association of Odisha. Meanwhile, Kongari Amit (21’) scored the lone goal for Hockey Jharkhand.
