Bengaluru, 17th November 2025: The Indian Men’s Hockey Team, in the wee hours of Monday, departed from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru for Ipoh, Malaysia to participate in the 31st Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025, scheduled from 23rd to 30th November.
The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious invitational tournaments in world hockey, offering teams a valuable platform to compete against high-quality opposition. This edition features a strong field, with India set to face Korea in their opening match on 23rd November, followed by fixtures against Belgium, hosts Malaysia, New Zealand and Canada in the round-robin stage. The top two teams at the end of the league phase will seal a spot in the Final on 30th November.
Over the past weeks, the Indian squad has trained in Bengaluru, focusing on tactical shape, structured play, fitness, and fine-tuning combinations under the leadership of defender Sanjay, who will captain the side in the tournament. The team is heading into the event with confidence and a well-defined plan, having gone through an intensive preparation block.
Captain Sanjay expressed confidence ahead of the tournament, stating, “We are really looking forward to the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. The team has worked hard over the past few weeks, focusing on both tactical discipline and fitness. This tournament always offers a great competitive atmosphere and a chance to test ourselves against strong international opponents. We are prepared and motivated to give our best in every match, and the goal is to maintain consistency and challenge for the title.”
