Netherlands:

The men of Oranje-Rood started the season in the Tulip big league with a win. In Eindhoven, Den Bosch was defeated 2-1. Rotterdam gave away a 2-0 lead against Pinoké (2-2), while Klein Zwitserland convincingly took the lead by beating promoted Schaerweijde 7-1.

Oranje-Rood – Den Bosch 2-1
Once again Den Bosch failed to win against Brabant province rival Oranje-Rood. Coach Nanco Jansonius’ team lost 2-1 in Eindhoven and is already eleven games without a win over Oranje-Rood. By the way, the Bossche formation started the game well. Already after seven minutes Koen Bijen put his team ahead. Thierry Brinkman appeared to make it 0-2, but the goal was disallowed. No 0-2, but it did make it 1-1. Borja Lacalle equalized before halftime. The Eindhoven formation of coach Ageeth Boomgaardt eventually took the win thanks to a penalty corner by Tijmen Reyenga in the 43rd minute.

Bloemendaal – HDM 5-0
Casper van der Veen crowned himself as Bloemendaal’s star with three goals. The team, winner of the ABN AMRO Cup, was 5-0 too strong for HDM at ‘t Kopje. Lucas Veen and newcomer Marco Miltkau also found the net. For HDM it again proved how difficult it is to get points in Bloemendaal. Since the last win on May 7, 1995 (2-1), there was only one draw in 25 meetings.

Pinoké – Rotterdam 2-2
Rotterdam failed to take the full spoils from the Amsterdam Forest. Coach Erik van Driel’s team went 0-2 after halftime with goals from Thijs van Dam and Guus Jansen, who scored with a nice backhand. In the last quarter, newcomer Indra Aerts brought the tension back from a penalty corner. Just before time, Miles Bukkens delivered the ball to Boris Aardenburg with an unparalleled behind-the-back assist, who tapped in the 2-2 with a minute and a half left to play.

Klein Zwitserland – Schaerweijde 7-1
Klein Zwitserland had little trouble or mercy for promoted Schaerweijde. In The Hague, a spacious 7-1 final score was on the board after four quarters. Already after five minutes it was 2-0 through Pepe Bijlaard and Aki Käppeler (penalty corner). Bijlaard later also made it 6-1 and Chad Futcher also scored twice, both from a penalty corner. Lars Daniels and Willem van Campen provided the remaining KZ goals. Niels de Joode scored the honorary goal for Schaerweijde, which has been waiting for a win on the Klein Zwitserland grounds since 1975.

Laren – Kampong 0-2
Laren played well against Kampong, but last season’s Promotion League champion was left empty-handed. Just before halftime Jip Janssen pushed in a penalty corner. It was the 34th time Janssen opened the scoring, which is more than any other still active player in the Tulip Men’s big league. The small lead was not extended until the fourth quarter. Finn van Bijnen tapped in the 0-2 after a cross from Derck de Vilder. For Kampong, it was the eighth consecutive win against Laren.
