The boys of Rotterdam and Victoria can get ready for a true derby. Both teams qualified for the final of the national championship this Saturday afternoon. For Victoria, shoot-outs against reigning national champion Schaerweijde were necessary, Rotterdam only needed a 2-1 victory. The girls of HDM and Kampong were also not beaten by the scorching heat and can be admired in the final next Saturday.

Girls
HDM’s girls qualified convincingly for the finals this Saturday afternoon after a second victory over Hurley. Last year’s losing finalist already won its away game last week (1-3) and added a 4-3 home victory. With temperatures around 30 degrees, Delany van den Broek put HDM up 1-0 early in the second quarter. Hurley soon came alongside thanks to a goal by Jikke de Graaf. After halftime, Hurley even smelled victory when Floor van Gorkum capitalized on a penalty corner. The Hague team put things in order through Floor Holzenbosch and Yara Akkerman, until Hurley struck again thanks to a goal by Wende Jansen. Only in the very last minute of the match HDM player Jill Anne Feenstra signed for the win.
Blood-curdlingly exciting. That was the first semifinal between Rotterdam and Kampong last week with a spectacular 5-5 result. Also this Saturday afternoon the teams showed to be evenly matched. Kampong got off to a flying start and after only five minutes the Utrecht girls were on top. Olivia Huisman put her team up 1-0. Things got even better for the home team when Leoniek Vercauteren doubled the score at the beginning of the second quarter. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Rotterdam did something back through Mila Rubesa. Too late to jeopardize Kampong’s victory.
The final between HDM and Kampong can be seen next Saturday at 14.15 at the complex of Rotterdam.

Boys
Victoria’s boys managed to shake off reigning national champion Schaerweijde. Last year’s losing finalist needed shoot-outs in Zeist after regular play ended 2-3 – just like last week when Schaerweijde won by the same score. It started so well for Schaerweijde that through a penalty corner by Teun van Aalderen and a goal by Jurre Bunte it went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Then Vic showed resilience with a hero’s role for Joepie Legein who scored no less than two penalties in a row. Olivier Sluijters made it 2-3 just before time. In the shoot-outs Victoria continued the strong line. No final for Schaerweijde, which was the national champion the last two years.
But it was a Rotterdam final, as the Rotterdam boys won their second semi-final. Just like last week, their match against Oranje-Rood ended in a 2-1 victory. On their own field the Rotterdammers were able to warm up for probably the most important derby they have ever played. Floris Rap lived up to his name by scoring the 1-0 after less than six minutes. After the away team scored the equalizer shortly thereafter, it was 1-1 for a long time. Until twelve minutes before time. Rap again thrilled the home crowd by scoring a penalty corner. His 2-1 was also the final score.
Saturday, June 28 at 4:15 p.m. Victoria and Rotterdam cross swords in their own city.
