Netherlands: Nationwide youth begins again: here’s how the leagues are structured

The summer break is over. Today the field hockey season officially begins. Fighting erupts again in the National O18 and O16 competitions. In the preliminary competition, the teams will hunt for a spot in the regular national competition.

The O18 youth preliminary competition has six playing days and runs until the fall. For both the boys and girls, the competition consists of eight pools with four teams each. The numbers one and two of each pool advance to the regular national competition after the fall break, while the numbers three and four will play in the Super O18 after the preliminary competition.

After the 14-day regular national competition, the numbers one and two from both pools will qualify for the semifinals of the NK on June 13 and 20. The O18 youth final is scheduled for Saturday, June 27.

O16

For the O16 youth, the preliminary competition runs until the winter break. This competition has ten playing days. For both the boys and girls, the competition consists of eight pools with six teams each. The numbers one, two and three of each pool advance to the regular national competition after the winter break. The numbers four and five will play in the Super O16 after the preliminary competition, while the number six will play in the Subtop division.

After the ten-day regular national competition, the numbers one and two of the four pools will qualify for the quarterfinals of the NK to be played on June 13. The semi-finals will follow a week later. The final day of the Dutch Championship is on Saturday, June 27, just like in the O18 category.
